And what will animal expert Dr Sunny Banuna and his team find when they embark on their big tiger hunt across the island?
From the award-winning duo of Alan John and Quek Hong Shin comes another charming and lively childrenās story, Grandmaās Tiger.
The tale was inspired by a slice of Singapore history ā a few frenzied days in 1997 when a tiger was āspottedā on Ubin.
Children will turn the pages eagerly as they, too, go on a tiger search and try to spot the tiger along the way.
The book is also filled with many beautifully-rendered illustrations of other creatures found in the region, such as the tiger beetle, the giant Asian mantis and the knobbly sea star.
Grandmaās Tiger is Alan John and Quek Hong Shinās third book together.
Their first collaboration, The One and Only Inuka, paid tribute to Inuka, the Singapore Zooās much-loved polar bear. The title won the Popular Readerās Choice Awards 2019 in the childrenās English books category.
Their second book together, Ubin Elephant, was inspired by another real-life incident ā the appearance of an elephant on Ubin in March 1991. Ubin Elephant was one of the three finalists for Best Picture Book for the Singapore Book Awards 2022. It has also been shortlisted for the Popular Readerās Choice Awards 2022.

Alan John is a journalist, a writer and a trainer, and a former deputy editor of The Straits Times. He is the director of the Asia Journalism Fellowship and a consulting editor of the South China Morning Post. He remembers the excitement in Singapore the year people living on Pulau Ubin said they saw a tiger. He does not know why nobody believes him when he tells this story.
Quek Hong Shin is a childrenās book author and illustrator. His picture books were twice nominated for The Hedwig Anuar Chil- drenās Book Award and The Incredible Basket won the Best Childrenās Picture Book award at the 2019 Singapore Book Awards. He visited Pulau Ubin with Alan and they did not see a tiger, but they did meet a man who insisted that it had walked past his house.
