This volume brings together the diverse perspectives of practitioners and academics in the professional and research fields of planning, architecture, urbanism, and city-making.

Heng Chye KiangĀ is Professor and Dean of the School of Design and Environment, National University of Singapore. He serves as a member of several editorial boards of international journals and as a jury member of many international design competitions in Asia. He is also Board member of the Building and Construction Authority, National Museum of Singapore, Centre for Liveable Cities, and former Board member of the Jurong Town Corporation and Urban Redevelopment Authority. His research covers the urban design and history of Chinese cities.
Heng Chye Kiang consults internationally and is the conceptual designer of several international urban design/planning competition winning entries in China. He publishes widely on urban history and design. His books includeĀ On Asian Streets and Public SpaceĀ (2010),Ā A Digital Reconstruction of Tang Chang'anĀ (2006), andĀ Cities of Aristocrats and BureaucratsĀ (1999).
